What's All the Fuss About?
Ever wonder what separates us from the majority of most nations, “free,” or not?
The very idea that our government is spelled out on paper, with limitations upon itself and idea of rights are given of God, that no man may unjustly take the life, liberty, or property of another human being is unique among the peoples of the world.
This very “contract” and our adherence to it is what keeps us free, not the latest trend in social programs and the newest means to avoid responsibility.
In short, it spells out that NO MAN can take away our freedoms that God Himself has given.
Ever wonder why the oath of office of most police officers and military personnel states, “to protect and defend the Constitution, and all enemies foreign and domestic?” That is because the loyalty of each man is to the defense of the bedrock of our laws and government: The Constitution.
Loyalty is not sworn to a man or a party. People come and go. Some men and organizations are more corrupt or incompetent than others, and some are just plain evil. The Constitution was meant to be timeless, to establish the principles upon which our free Republic is founded.
This was evident in two of the most evil governments to exist upon the face of the Earth: the Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. Both required loyalty to a man or party (which, inevitably, is controlled by a man). People willing to subvert the free process of legislation and constitutional government often require and oath of loyalty to themselves or their party. An excellent example was the shameless corruption of the German Army Officers’ Oath by Hitler, requiring the officer corps to pledge allegiance to him.
One would either have to be brain dead, or a recent graduate of a public school system, to not know the legacies of these two regimes.
Of course, the claims by those out there who say that they have our “best interests” at heart when they wish to subvert the Constitution, or call it a “living, breathing document,” are just as dangerous, although more subtle. The idea that there are our “betters,” or those more capable of running our lives than ourselves runs contrary to the idea of a free society.
Having been in uniform of one form or another (no…not with the “Hello, my name is” embroidery) all of my adult life, I have seen the Constitution whittled away bit by bit by self-interested politicians. Especially so in the venue of police or military work. One of the many reasons I chose to get out of police work for a season was the absolute lack of concern for the Constitution by elected officials, with they considering us to be little more than legal thugs armed to enforce policy preferences, and not enforce the laws to protect the people. In short, many of our local elected leaders choose to make war on their constituency, rather than go after the criminals. After all, which is easier: Fining Joe for watering his lawn, or doing something about the crack dealer on the corner, or the armed robberies that plague a particular neighborhood? What takes more effort: Expelling a kid from elementary school for "zero tolerance" policy violations for drawing a picture of a gun, or expelling the little animal who actually IS packing and beating kids on a daily basis? You can ignore the most "dangerous" course of action, and take the easiest to say that you "did something about school violence."
While on the topic of public schools, even better is the criminalization of childhood mischief. Today, what once merited a day in detention now merits arrest and transport (in handcuffs in a marked police car) for a state or local ordinance for "disturbing schools." Yet, the thug slinging weed on campus isn't even touched. Amazingly, people wonder why kids don't respect the police, nowadays!
The same thing goes with more dangerous situations. Even in hostage rescue, when the hostage taker has the clear ablility and opportunity to kill an innocent human being, and makes a credible move to do so, woe be it to the operator who puts the thug down. Not only will you be the subject of a lenghthy investigation, but you will be subjected to the ususal trial in the media, facts be damned. Just hope that when you get the alert and warning order, that the suspects are not a member of a minority group or "protected political class."
Just pray that the dude holding the innocents hostage is a white Christian heterosexual meat-eating male non-union member from the South with two parents and an SUV.
Better yet, get a prosecutor looking to make political hay out of anything available, and you could be looking at a looonnnng prison stay for involuntary homicide for saving an innocent's life.
Again, it all goes to self interest.
The same thing can be seen on the international level. What is easier, color codes of the day, or taking out the trash that caused the codes to have to be established in the first place?
Quite honestly, one of the many reasons I am writing on this board is out of outrage of the complete moral cowardice of many of our elected leaders, no matter whether there be a “D”, “R,” or “I” by their name.
So…come on in, set a spell, and relax a while. If I have gotten ‘ya to think, then I’ve done my job.
Cheers.
